

A Greek goddess, daughter of Zeus and Demeter, but
of uncertain origin.
is an Greece-Roman goddess of triple nature celestial and maritime - variously associated with
crossroads, gates and other entrances, passages,
light in darkness, childbirth, as well as a more
universal role as World Soul in Hellenistic times
Historical/ Biblical Significance

According to mythology, Hecate was the goddess of
many attributes; these included the moon, witchcraft,
crossroads, dog sacrifices, torches and ghosts.
Among Hecate’s powers was a measure of control
over the fertility of the earth. She gave honor and
wealth to those men who sacrificed properly and
called upon her.
Stories/ Myths


As a triple goddess, she was also
identified with the three aspects of
the moon and was represented by
women of three different ages. In
the sky, she took the form of the
old woman Selene, the moon. On
earth, she was linked to Artemis
(Diana), goddess of the hunt. In
the underworld, she was
connected with the maiden
Persephone, wife of Hades.
Hecate has been characterized as
a Pre Olympian chthonic goddess
