Location and Causes of Earthquakes
Title: Location and Causes of Earthquakes

Date: 23/05/2017

Lesson Aims:


To find out the location of earthquakes around
the world.
To find out what causes earthquakes to occur.
Lesson starter:

Location of the worlds earthquakes.

On the next slide you will see a map of the world.
Discuss with each other where you think you get
earthquake activity and where you get no
earthquakes.


Be ready to come up to the board and mark on
your answers.


This map shows the plate boundaries of the Earth.
All earthquake and volcanic eruptions happen along
these boundaries.
What causes earthquakes?

The different sections of plates are constantly
moving due to convection caused by the heat of
the Earth’s core.

When the plate move they cause earthquakes,
volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.

When the plates collide massive amounts of
pressure build up. When the strain becomes too
much the pressure is released and this causes
the Earth to shake.
