Advisors: Dr. Sunny Jung, Dr. Joe Eifert
The goal of this project is to develop an efficient and
environmentally friendly method for cleaning the rind of a
cantaloupe with cavitation bubbles to dislodge and neutralize
salmonella.
Key Features:
•
Understand effectiveness of cavitation on
bacteria
–
–
•
•
Ability to dislodge bacteria
Ability to kill bacteria
Characterization of cantaloupe surface
Ability to test both mechanical and biological
parameters in a single test setup
Deliverables:
•
Recommendation of optimal frequency range for
effectively cleaning cantaloupe
•
CAD design of potential prototype
