Terms Used in This Lesson 4 Agenda slide: A slide that lists the titles of custom shows within a presentation. Color scheme: A set of eight colors that work well together. All the text, line, and fills in a design template are controlled by the color scheme. Most design templates have several color schemes to choose from. Terms Used in This Lesson (cont.) 5 Custom show: A group of related slides within a presentation that are gathered and given a presentation name (a subpresentation). Slide background: The color, pattern, texture, and/or graphics that comprise the bottom-most layer of a slide. Customizing the Color Scheme 6 A color scheme is a palette of eight colors that work well together and that you use for all the slides in a presentation. Changing the color scheme is a quick way to give a slide show a new look. Select a new color scheme by opening the Slide Design task pane from the Format menu and selecting Color Schemes. Customizing the Color Scheme (cont.) 7 You can pick from the standard color palette or create your own custom color. Change elements of the current color scheme to create a custom color scheme. Select a scheme color in the Edit Color Scheme dialog box and click Change Color to choose a new color. Customizing the Slide Background The slide background is the bottom “layer” of the slide. From the Format menu and choose Background Options for changing the slide background include – – 8 – Selecting a new background color from the current color scheme. Customizing the Slide Background (cont.) 9 The Fill Effects dialog box contains four tabs of options for backgrounds: – Use the Gradient tab to create special color effects. – Select one of 24 textures from the Texture tab. – Apply a pattern using the Pattern tab. – Choose a background picture on the Picture tab. Choose the down arrow from the Background dialog box then click Fill Effects Customizing Masters 10 A presentation’s masters control appearance and layout of items on a slide or handout. Most presentations have four masters: the slide master, the title master, the handout master, and the notes master. Besides containing text placeholders, slide and title masters often include background graphics. Customizing Masters (cont.) 11 You can customize a presentation’s appearance by changing master items. For example, you can move the slide number placeholder to the top of the slide so that numbers will appear there on all slides. You can also add text boxes or graphics to masters to have them appear on all slides. From the View menu choose Master then Slide Master, Note Master, or Handout Master Customizing Masters (cont.) The slide master contains placeholders for title and bulleted text The master also contains graphic elements for the slide background 12 Creating Custom Shows 13 A custom show is a group of related slides in a presentation stored with a specific name. Custom shows are actually presentations within a presentation. From the Slide Show menu choose Custom Shows then click new Create a custom show by selecting slides from the presentation to add to the show Customizing Toolbars 14 You can customize toolbars to show only the tools you want. You can also create your own toolbar. To create or customize a toolbar, use the options in the Customize dialog box, which is accessed through the Tools menu. Customizing Toolbars (cont.) 15 On the Commands tab, select a category. Commands for that category appear at the right side of the box. Drag commands to any toolbar as desired. Creating Custom Animation 16 Control the display of information on slides with custom animation effects. Use animation effects to “fly” titles into position, make bulleted items appear one by one, or control a sound or movie object. Apply custom animation effects from the Slide show menu and then choose Custom Animation the task pane will appear. Creating Custom Animation (cont.) Click arrow for additional options Use the Custom Animation task pane to – – Click Play to test animations 17 – – Add an entrance, emphasis, exit, or motion path effect. Specify a start option. Set direction and speed. Change the order in which effects occur. Creating a Design Template Create your own design template to use for presentations that require a uniform look. Create a design template by – – 18 Modifying an existing design template to fit your tastes and needs. Starting from a blank presentation and adding everything from the background up. Creating a Design Template (cont.) 19 Save a template with your files, or let PowerPoint place it in the Templates folder. Custom templates in the Templates folder display in the Slide Design pane. To access a template saved elsewhere, click Browse in the Slide Design task pane and locate the template. Customizing Web Pages 20 Save any presentation as a Web page using the Save as Web page command on the File menu. Click Change Title to specify a different page title. For more control over a Web presentation, click the Publish button to open the Publish as Web page dialog box. Customizing Web Pages (cont.) In the Publish as Web Page dialog box, you can – – – Click Web Options to see additional publishing options. 21 Specify the slides to publish. Select browser versions to support. Set the Web page title and the file name. Summary 22 Changing the color scheme is a quick way to give slides a fresh new look. You have many options for changing the background of a slide. PowerPoint’s masters control the placement of text and other items on a slide, as well as color, font, style, and size of text. PowerPoint offers many different animation effects you can use to help control information during a presentation, as well as to add visual interest to your slides.
