 Study will focus on the Adaptation of
Bagu Tree or scientifically known as
Gnetum Gnemon in Man-Made
environment
It is a small to medium tree that can
grow 15 – 20 metres high
Mostly found in the wild tropical
rainforest
However, they can also be cultivated in
man-made environment
 It is an understorey tree species of
Southeast Asian rainforest.
They are mostly grown in dry and
humid areas on secondary and
primary rainforest at low and medium
altitude.
They grow best in areas with annual
precipitation of 3,000 to 5,000 mm
However, they can also survive
in an annual rainfall of only 750 t0
1,500 mm
 Bagu tree have various uses:
1. The young leaves are edible.
 Uses as vegetable
2. The nut is eaten
 Either boiled, fried or roasted
 Excellent source of vitamin A
and C.
3. Its bark fiber can be process into:
 Rope making
 Fishing net
 High grades paper product
 Bagu tree is not well known to the urban population and it is difficult
to find the tree.
 Leaves for the vegetables are quite pricey in the market
Therefore, by doing this research:
a. It will create awareness to the people that there is other ways
to get bagu tree easily, which is by growing them in their
home garden
 This is because this type of plant species can be grown in
diverse soil types (from sandy, clay to loam to calcerous soils
However, they prefer relatively soil with good drainage.
b. It will create public awareness on the existence of Bagu
tree and realization on its ability to survive in a manmade environment
c. It can create the economic prospect of commercializing the
product made from Bagu tree in the future.
 This is in order to achieve sustainable and
environmentally sound forest production, where forest
production can be optimized
 Furthermore, to achieve economic diversification in
order to:
 Reduce dependency on oil and gas
 Create more and more jobs
 Create more resources of revenue
The purpose of conducting this study is:
To find out any structural variations found in between the
cultivated species with the wild species
To find out the growth rate and quality of species on two
different environment
To find out factors that allow a wild plants to survive in an
artificial environment
To achieve the purpose of our study, three research question
will be answered to direct the investigation
Research question 1:
Is there any relationship between the structure of the species
and its ability to survive in different environment?
Research question 2
Does the surrounding plants and the physical environment of
the area influence the population and quality of the species?
Research question 3
Does human input plays an important role in the growth rate
and the quality of species?
