• Deciduous nut-bearing trees and shrubs
• Found in the northern hemisphere, and along the
mountains to South America.
• They are usually found near streams and lakes, or other
poorly drained areas.
• Leaves – alternate, simple, stipulate.
• Pollinate by wind
