Everett, Wash. — Village Theatre KIDSTAGE SummerStock produces Annie Get Your Gun,
running August 15–24, 2008 at the Everett Performing Arts Center. Annie Get Your Gun tells the
adventurous story of Annie Oakley, a sharp-shooter who falls in love with her competition,
Frank Butler. This classic musical scores a bull's-eye with Irving Berlin's well-known hit tunes
"Anything You Can Do" and "There's No Business Like Show Business." Audiences of all ages
will laugh and applaud at this Wild West show within a show in Peter Stone's Tony-award
winning 1999 revision of the original 1946 classic.
KIDSTAGE SummerStock is a unique program that allows the participating students to
work directly with a variety of Mainstage professionals by working within the Teen Access
Program (TAP). TAP aligns teens with theatre professionals in performance, production, or
teaching according to their interests through mentorships and internships, and this particular
production boasts seven of these students. Heather Carlyle, KIDSTATE Coordinator in Everett
comments, “It's really neat to see all the skills they are learning that they’ll be able to take back
to their respective schools, and to see the life skills such as time management and collaboration
at work.”
KIDSTAGE SummerStock will produce Peter Stone’s 1999 revision of this production,
which features three Irving Berlin songs that were not included in the Original Broadway
production; “An Old Fashioned Wedding,” “Who Do You Love, I Hope,” and “I'll Share It All.”
Director Mo Brady comments on the revision by saying, “I think the most over arching change is
that the story of Annie Oakley and Frank Butler is now presented as a show-within-a-show.
Actors portraying Buffalo Bill Cody and his troupe of actors, roustabouts, dancers, musicians
will enter an empty theater at each performance. They sing one of the best-known anthems for
theatre ever written "There's No Business Like Show Business" as they build and create the
environment in which they will perform.”
Annie Get Your Gun features 39 young people, grades 5 to 12, in a full-scale musical,
which includes professionally-designed sets, costumes, lights, and sound. Actors are selected
through a highly competitive audition process, and the show is directed, choreographed, and
musically directed by skilled theatre professionals. Brady comments, “Annie Get Your Gun uses
the great American musical to tell one of the greatest love stories in American history, bringing it
brilliantly to life. KIDSTAGE is excited to be one of the first youth theatres in the area to present
the adapted version of this Broadway classic.”
