Carthage – powerful ancient city state located in Northern Africa.

Hannibal - Carthaginian general who attacked Rome once with elephants through the Alps.

Punic Wars- A series of three wars between Carthage and Rome

Caesar- Title given to ancient Roman leaders : means ruler
5.
Jesus – founder of monotheistic religion Christianity
6.
Latin – Language of the Romans , widely spread and developed into other modern European languages.

Plebians- Working class citizens of Rome(farmers, merchants, artisans)
8.
Patricians- Upper class, aristocrats of Rome wealthy and powerful

Pax Romana- 200 year period of peace and prosperity in the empire.
10. Roman Colosseum- An Amphitheatre built in Rome for entertainment such as gladiator fights
11. Republic – Form of roman government in which citizens vote for leaders to run the government. Many modern
governments (USA included) use this as a model.
12. Representative – An official elected by the citizens to make decisions for them in the government .
13. Constitutional Government – A government that is based on a written set of laws/rules.
14. Aqueduct - Structure that carried clean water from the mountains to Roman cities.
15. Concrete – A building material developed by the Romans. “Shapeable Stone”
16. Romulus and Remus – Mythical brothers raised by a wolf and founded the city of Rome.
17. Julius Caesar- Military leader who became the first leader of the Roman Republic. Later assassinated for being power
hungry.
18. The Twelve Tablets – The first set of written laws used by the Roman Empire. Developed after the plebians revolted.
