What does Renaissance mean?

Renaissance means the rebirth of
creativity and learning in Western
Europe.

Leonardo Da Vinci was a famous
artist and scientist who lived during
the Renaissance. He was famous
for his painting called the “Mona
Lisa.”

important inventions of the
Renaissance? Why?

 One of the most important inventions of
the Renaissance was the PRINTING
PRESS which was invented by Johann
Gutenberg.
 It was so important because books and
Bibles could be printed– this allowed
more people to be able to READ!

 The Reformation was a 16th century
movement to change Catholic church
practices
 The Counter Reformation was the
Catholic Church’s response to the
Reformation– they stopped selling
indulgences and created a new religious
order– called the Jesuits

 Who was Martin Luther? What was
his accomplishment?

 Martin Luther was a German monk who
wrote the 95 theses- he questioned the
Catholic Church’s practices.
 His accomplishment was that he started
a new branch of Christianity- known as
the Protestant religion

What changes did Europeans bring
to Africa?
Explorers and Imperialism
 Europeans brought many changes to Africa.
They first brought diseases, which killed
many Africans since they were not used to
European diseases. Europeans also
brought Christianity to Africa, which
changed many of their religious beliefs. And
lastly, Europeans forced many Africans to
become slaves which changed the
population of Africa.
