Quick Start guide USB Adaptor

USB Adapter Installation
1. Make sure that the USB Adapter is not connected to a USB port and boot
up your computer.
2. Once your C has booted up, insert the installation CD provided with the
USB Adapter. The start-up menu will appear automatically. If the start-up
menu does not appear automatically, double click on the AutoRun.exe file
that you will find in the CD.
3. Select “Instalar Adaptador USB”. The wireless device wizard will start.
Follow the steps until the installation is completed.
4. Once you have finished the installation, connect the USB Adapter to your
computer. The operating system will detect the connection with the new
device and automatically install its corresponding drivers.
Windows XP
5. The USB Adapter is now ready for use. In the Windows task bar you will
find the “Monitor de Red Inalámbrica” icon. The red or blue colour of the icon
will inform you of the connection status. In Windows XP you will find
Windows XP wireless connection icon.
Windows 2000
6. Make sure the “WLAN” LED on the wireless router is on so that you can
connect the USB Adapter. See the routers user manual for more information
or see www.telefonicaonline.com.
7. Configure your USB Adapter with the “Monitor de Red Inalámbrica” or
with Windows XP utility according to the routers wireless parameters:
Network name (SSID), encryption (WPA or WEP). You can verify these
parameters on a label that is situated on the under part of the router or
checking the Agente ADSL configuration of your router (for more information
consult the routers user manual). Below you can find the sample of the
under part of the router.

Connecting to a wireless network under Windows XP
1. Click on Start-> Connect to -> Wireless network Connections. You will see a
window with the wireless networks that the USB Adapter has detected, to
refresh the networks, click on Refresh network list.
2. In this windows you will find your wireless network (verify the data on the
router label).
3. Double click on the name of your wireless network. A new window will appear
where you will need to type the encryption of the wireless network. Once you
have filled in this parameter, click on Connect.
Connecting to a wireless network under Windows 2000
1. Double click on the “Monitor de Red Inalámbrica” icon situated in the task bar.
A window with the wireless utility will appear, click on the “Redes Disponibles”
tab. In this window you will find the wireless networks that the USB Adpater
has detected, to refresh the networks, click on Refrescar.
2. In this window you will find your wireless network (you can verify the
parameters in the router label).
3. Click on Perfiles, then on Añadir, a new window will appear where you will
need to type the profile name, and then click on Siguiente. Type or select the
network in the field Nombre de la Red. Click on Siguiente.
4. Select the security mode according to your router and click on Siguiente. Type
the wireless network encryption and click Siguiente.
5. Select whether you wish to configure or not the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). If
you do not wish to, click on Terminar. If you do wish to click on Siguiente and
type in the TCP/IP parameters. These parameters are supplied in the
connection parameters supplied in a letter from Telefonica, then click on
Terminar.
6. Selected the profile that you have created and click on Conectar.
Observations
During the installation it is possible that Windows will advise that some system files
will need to be copied. Make sure that you have the Windows 2000/XP installation CD
nearby. In many systems these files are filed in the hard disc en the directory
C:\WINDOWS\CABS.
Wireless client in public access areas
Once the wireless client has been installed in your PC and you enter into an area that
has a wireless signal, the service supplier will you provide recommendations for the
best configuration.
If you enter into Telefonica’s "Zona ADSL Wi-Fi" de Telefónica, you will need to
configure your USB Adapter according to the following parameters:
Network Name =”Telefonica”
Network type =”Punto de Acceso”
Encryption =”Desactivado”
Once you have configured your wireless profile, you will be able to connect to one of
Telefonica’s "Zona ADSL Wi-Fi” access points, open your Internet Explorer and try to
access any web site that you desire. Telefonica´s "Zona ADSL Wi-Fi" Server will
automatically redirect you to its home page. Select the billing option that most suits
you and type in the PIN number given. When your PIN number has been accepted, you
will be able to enjoy your wireless broad band connection.

Atention
The USB Adapter can support hot swapping, which jeans that the USB Adapter can be
connected and disconnected with your computer running without the USB Adapter
nor your computer suffering and harm or damage. (For more information see the user
manual of your operating system)
User Manual
You can find the User Manual in English in the CD supplied with the USB Adapter.
To see the user manual in English, close the auto screen and enter: CD drive=>
Manuales =>English => User Manual. If your computer does not have Acrobat Reader, you
can install it from the autorun by selecting the option Instalar Acrobat Reader.
Recommendations
Some obstacle or barriers such as walls, wardrobes, mirrors, etc, could affect the
signal coverage and quality. To try to optimize your connection you can move the
antenna of the USB Adapter or the USB Adapter to achieve a better signal.
