Dr. Douglas Dedo finished the transformation by providing a facelift to the patient, while Dr. Louis DeLuca of Boca Raton performed a breast reduction, completing this cosmetic makeover. Dr. Dedo: The Patient’s S.L.A.B.S. is a phenomenal success story; dieting assisted weight loss and the S.L.A.B.S. procedures eliminated unwanted fat, resulting in a toner and firmer frame, and eliminating joint pain along with other complications of obesity. She was awake through the S.L.A.B.S. procedures, had just one day of downtime, minimal bruising and no scarring because there were no stitches involved. Once the S.L.A.B.S. procedures were completed, the Patient recovered well and we discussed the final stage: a face/neck lift and breast reduction. This surgery required that the Patient go under general anesthesia for five to six hours, so both cosmetic procedures were performed at the same time. Dr. Louis DeLuca is my extremely talented colleague who performed her breast surgery while I operated on the face/neck area. Dr. DeLuca is a tremendous surgeon. I immensely enjoyed the opportunity to work with him and was very impressed with all he did. Dr. DeLuca: Having the upmost respect for Dr. Dedo, I was intrigued to hear about the S.L.A.B.S. makeover project. Photo by Jeremiah Jenner 36 www.pbglifestyle.com S ince June, PBG Lifestyle has followed the S.L.A.B.S. surgeries and progress of a patient undergoing a series of liposuction and body sculpting treatments, for the purpose of losing weight to provide a healthier lifestyle and image with minimal risks involved. All S.L.A.B.S. treatments are now complete and in just seven months the patient lost a total of seventy-plus pounds! Her dress size has now been reduced from a size twenty to size twelve; additionally, she feels great and is continuing to lose weight by following a healthy diet and lifestyle. Gina Franano after S.L.A.B.S. surgeries with Robin Quivers of The Howard Stern Show Upon examining the patient, I recognized breast reduction surgery would contribute greatly to her appearance, but it would be a tremendous surgical undertaking. I welcomed the challenge and opportunity to work simultaneously with Dr. Dedo. Patient: I worried about general anesthesia, but never having a problem with it for past surgery, I quickly changed focus to selecting a surgeon to operate on my reduction. As I healed from the S.L.A.B.S. procedures, I continued losing weight and grew self-conscious of how mammoth my breasts appeared, and not in a flattering way. Dr. Dedo would only recommend the best doctor available, and that’s exactly what he did. Dr. DeLuca has a well-earned reputation as an excellent cosmetic surgeon with a terrific sensitivity and bedside manner, very important during cosmetic surgeries. Dr. DeLuca quickly became an integral part of the team. He and his entire staff made me feel comfortable from our first meeting. I then had not one, but two highly skilled and compassionate surgeons operating on me at the same time! Dr. DeLuca: The patient needed a reduction and a lift utilizing her own tissue, without an implant. My surgery is meticulous, and I spent many hours ensuring a natural and youthful appearance. Patient: I couldn’t believe how great my chest looked and how minimal the scarring was. It’s been four weeks since the operation and the scar line is already light and thin. I had no bleeding and minimal discomfort. I’ll continue to wear a sports bra for the next month (underwire is not permitted for eight weeks post-surgery). Dr. DeLuca did such an amazing job; I really don’t “need” to wear one at all! Dr. Dedo: Once S.L.A.B.S. and breast reduction completed the fabulous makeover, the face/neck lift was the icing on the cake. Recovery from the procedure required the patient to wear a chin strap for one week to assist in tissue support. She would be in downtime for two weeks following the breast surgery, and six days of it included face/neck lift. Chewing was a bit uncomfortable in the days immediately following surgery. A small incision was made under her chin, behind each ear and along the bottom hairline, which clears up within six weeks. She experienced slight swelling under the jaw line; the tissue somewhat hardened. It takes approximately eight full weeks for swelling to totally subside, but she was able to go out in public after just a week. Explained the two doctors, “Not everyone may be eligible candidates for these specific surgeries. Smokers, people taking blood thinners, having problems with healing or requiring extra precautions, as well as those on certain medications and natural herbs first need to be qualified. “Our patient did great – without incident – looks twenty years younger and feels fantastic. It was a beautifying and healthy makeover with minimal risk involved.” PBG JANUARY 2010 37
