Allergy Pre-testing Instructions
1.
STOP the following meds 7 days prior to testing:
 ALL antihistamines (Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Benadryl, Alavert, Hydroxazine)
 ALL nasal sprays
 ALL NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Aspirin, Alieve)
 ALL beta blockers (drugs ending in olol)
 ALL antidepressants (DO NOT stop abruptly)
 ALL H2 Blockers (Zantac, Tagamet, Pepcid, or Axid)
 Singulair
 Strattera
 Sedatives
 Muscle relaxants
 Vitamin C (most juices, multivitamins, citric fruits)

EMLA Cream instructions: (Script enclosed with instruction sheet).
 Apply to BOTH arms liberally (DO NOT rub into skin) at least 1 hour prior to appointment time:
o Underside of forearms from wrist to bend of arm
o Upper outermost arms from elbow to top of shoulder
o There should be a thick white coating on both arms
o Wrap both arms with plastic wrap (ie Saran Wrap)
o Hint: You can use clear packing tape to secure cream to outer shoulder area, for this is where the
VERY FIRST injections will go. It is very important that the child not feel these injections, so
careful attention should be given to these areas.
Appointment Date:
 Please keep appointment as scheduled because it is impossible to schedule a new child for the same day.
 If you give your child any of the above listed medications prior to test date, call the allergy nurse ASAP so
that the child can be rescheduled 7 days from the event date.
 If you cannot make your appointment, please notify the allergy nurse ASAP.
 For questions, speak with the allergy nurse, Nicole Hurt at 769-0110.
