Michael R. Williams
Biography
Michael Williams’ practice focuses on the areas of business and real estate litigation. Mr. Williams has counseled
individuals and companies in a broad range of matters and cases involving breach of contract, commercial loan
defaults, commercial lease disputes, mechanic’s liens, public and private works projects, collections, and
construction defects.
Mr. Williams received his Bachelor of Science from Pepperdine University in 1993, and obtained his Juris Doctor
from the University of California at Davis in 1996. Mr. Williams has been practicing law at Hefner, Stark &
Marois since 1996. He became a partner of the firm in 2006.
Since 1996, Mr. Williams regularly represents contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, developers and owners in
complex multi-party litigation. His regular practice areas also include business litigation, receiverships,
collections, and prejudgment remedies. Samples of Mr. Williams’ recent successes are as follows:

Successfully defended bank in multimillion dollar litigation filed by loan guarantor who sued bank for negligence
in connection with a construction loan.
Successfully sought appointment of court-appointed receivers throughout California in connection with nonperforming loans totaling several million dollars.
Successfully collected over $1,000,000.00 on behalf of numerous contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
Mr. Williams is licensed to practice in the state of California, as well as the United States District Courts for the
Eastern, Central, Northern and Southern Districts of California, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and
the United States Supreme Court.
Professional Involvement
In addition to his law practice, Mr. Williams has served as Vice President and Board Member of Diogenes Youth
Services, Inc., and subsequently Wind Youth Services, a non-profit corporation serving at-risk youth in the
Sacramento area. He was also a member of the Active 20-30 Club No. 1.
