MEF STARTS COMMEMORATION OF THE HOMELAND MONTH
The event was chaired by the minister Dulcidio De La Guardia.
With the unfurling of the national flag and the delivery of a recognition to the
Panamanian Omar Alfanno for his successful artistic career, the Ministry of
Economy and Finance (MEF) has started the Independence Day celebrations, an
act which was chaired by the minister Dulcidio De La Guardia, while the finance
minister, Eyda Varela de Chinchilla made the oath to the country's flag.
De La Guardia in his speech noted that in commemoration of the month of the
homeland, the Panamanians must celebrate the fact that we are writing one of the
most important pages of our history, because Panama, despite being a small
country, presents an economic strength that far exceeds that of other nations in the
region with a growth of 6%.
He pointed out that we dress the homeland in joy and we pay a special tribute,
working as we have been doing to change and modernize its face with the
implementation of the Five-year Plan 2015-2019 with a total investment of 19.5
billion, of which more than 50 percent is spent on social works and inclusion.
"We pay honor to the homeland, with the expansion of the Panama Canal which
will enable us to continue to be bridge for all the nations of the world and become
the logistical hub of the Americas, which joined to other mega public projects such
as the Lines 2 and 3 of the Metro and the renewal of Colon, contribute to energize
the Panamanian economy and generate more jobs", he said.
He stressed that the Ministry of Economy and Finance is proud to commemorate
our homeland ephemeris and as a tribute, we are putting the country's wealth to
the service of all citizens, advocating for fairness and transparency jealously
guided by a government honest and prudent in the management of public finances.
We are paying homage to the homeland, forging a new caste of collaborators
working attached to the transparency and the ethical and moral values. This is
perhaps our best tribute because every country is proud of having a children who
make honesty a second religion.
This activity where the typical costumes prevailed, had the participation of the band
of the Javier High School, alma mater of the minister De La Guardia. In this tribute
to the homeland was also recognized the contribution to the country of valuable
compatriots that give life to Panama as the composer Omar Alfanno, who thanked
the Ministry of Economy and Finance, by distinction and said that all his hits are
devoted to Panama.
The children of the COIF of the MEF, delighted the present with a typical dance
and prose alluding to the month of November, while the typical group of the
Administrative Unit of Reverted Goods (UABR), dressed up the act with folk
dances and the music band from the National Police interpreted the National
Anthem.
