Full Bio
Robert Cowie is a NYC-based composer and pianist. He has composed music for short
films: (Holle Singer’s “Bang,” and “The Present”, Michael Martinez’s “Courage”, and
Andrew Harrison’s “No Imagination”), theatre productions: (The 52nd Street Project’s
“By Degrees: Six Plays Of Separation”, Brett C. Leonard’s “Harold’s Harem”, and Nidia
Medina’s “Every Love Story Ends in Tears”), TV: (NYC Media’s “Best of The Bronx
Series” and Billy Bones’ “Pirate School”), and the Internet (YouTube’s Official
Comedy). He has a BA in music from Cornell University and has studied composition
for Film and TV with Michael Bacon, Ben Newhouse, and Pinar Toprak.
In addition to his work as a composer, Robert performs regularly around NYC and
internationally. From 2007-2009 he was Musical Director at the infamous Lower East
Side hot spot, The Box, where he composed, arranged, and performed music for every
type of act imaginable (and few he couldn’t even begin to imagine) in its nightly neovaudvillian show “Pandora”. His trio was in residence 5 nights a week for the opening
year of The Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room. He is currently Musical Director for
downtown chanteuse Lady Rizo performing with her at Joe’s Pub, The Darby, and
around the world. He has performed with and for some of music and Hollywood’s best
and brightest.
Robert has played in big bands (The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra), gospel choirs (Pamojani), jazz trios, and rock bands. He has worked in hotels (Park Hyatt Tokyo’s NY Bar), on
cruise ships (The Carnival Victory) and underground (The Boston T). He also plays
accordion, guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele. He sings. He has studied jazz and classical
