BIOGRAPHY
Ivett GYÖNGYÖSI began her piano studies at the age of seven and four years later she was admitted to the
Liszt Academy’s Special School for Exceptional Young Talents. Since 2011 she has studied piano at the Liszt
Ferenc Academy of Music with Kálmán Dráfi, and chamber music with János Devich. Despite her young age she
has won several prizes at national and international piano competitions; she took first place at the International
Chopin Piano Competition in Budapest twice, in 2006 and 2008. In 2010 she scored a sweeping triumph as the
winner of the LIONS International Piano Competition organized in Pécs, and she was appointed ’Young Steinway
Artist’ by Steinway and Sons in Hamburg.
She became 2011’s New Talent and a UNESCO Special Prize winner among artists coming from 40 countries.
In 2013 July she was awarded first prize at the Lancaster International Piano Festival in the USA, while
in October she collected all of the awards at the 10th Darmstadt International Chopin Piano Competition.
She received the Junior Prima Primissima Prize in 2012, and in 2014 she won the classical music talent show
of the Hungarian Television Virtuózok (Virtuosos) in her age group – during the show her performance was
likened to Annie Fisher’s by both the jury and the audience. She made her highly successful orchestra debut
with the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy at age 15. Later she performed at the
Wiener Musikverein, the Laeiszhall-Musikhalle Hamburg, the Palace of Arts in Budapest and many other concert
halls through Europe and the United States. She has worked with such renowned musicians as Matan Porat,
Gottlieb Wallisch, Choong-Mo Kang, Emile Naumov, Alexander Strukov, Imre Rohmann, Jenő Jandó, Tamás
Vásáry and Zoltán Kocsis, all of whom appreciated her extraordinary talents.
Ivett saw a piano for the first time in her life at the kindergarten in Vásárosnamény, and she immediately felt an
inexplicable attraction towards the instrument. Since she received her first piano at the age of 7, she has spent all
her time at the keyboard. In the beginning she liked to improvise a lot and made compositions to her own liking.
Her father would take her to almost all of the concerts she wanted to attend, and many times she would try to
play what she had heard right after the concert. Her favorite composer is Chopin, whose music has accompanied
her all her life: she played Chopin when she was accepted at the preparatory class of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of
Music at age 11; she has won numerous Chopin competitions both in Hungary and abroad; and her solo recitals
always include some works by Chopin. Ivett likes to give charity concerts, she regularly performs, for instance,
for the patients of her special education therapist mother.
