An optometrist specializing in neuro-ophthalmic disease and a doctor of pharmacy will share their perspectives on the treatments of systemic diseases and their ocular manifestations. Ciccarone, MS, OTR/L, CLVT Luis Trujillo, OD This course features an optometrist and occupational therapist who will discuss the evaluation and treatment process for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). They will review how to screen, evaluate, and provide treatment for vision and cognition for patients with TBI. An optometrist and a pharmacist present cases on the management of ocular pain stemming from infection, inflammation, trauma and surgery. 2:15 pmBreak 2:30 pm The Medical and Visual Rehabilitative Management of Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Retinitis Pigmentosa Richard Brilliant, OD, FAAO, Diplomate Joshua Greene, MD Content experts discuss the medical management of age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa and how the optometrist provides vision rehabilitation to patients with these conditions. 4:10 pmClosing DYNAMIC DUOS 2016 SPEAKERS RICHARD BRILLIANT, OD, FAAO, DIPLOMATE (LOW VISION) KELLY MALLOY, OD, FAAO, DIPLOMATE (NEURO-OPHTHALMIC DISEASE) An associate professor at Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Brilliant is a senior low vision practitioner who lectures on low vision rehabilitation. He has served as principal investigator and clinical evaluator in many National Eye Institute research grants involving low vision lens systems. He is the author of many articles in referred journals and editor of a textbook titled Essentials of Low Vision Practice. He has also been appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of the Food and Drug Administration in the center for Devices and Radiological Health. Dr. Malloy is the director of the Neuro-ophthalmic Disease Service at The Eye Institute and an associate professor at Salus University. She specializes in visual and ocular conditions related to the brain or manifested as a more global systemic or neurologic process. Her areas of interest include vision loss, headache, double vision, optic nerve assessment and ocular manifestations of stroke, thyroid dysfunction and other systemic and neurologic conditions. Dr. Malloy regularly consults with multidisciplinary health care teams to improve patient outcomes. DAWN CICCARONE, MS, OTR/L, CLVT TRACY OFFERDAHL, PHARMD An instructor in Salus University’s College of Education and Rehabilitation, Ms. Ciccarone teaches in the occupational therapy program and works in the low vision specialty clinic at The Eye Institute. She specializes in low vision rehabilitation and geriatrics. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, Master of Science degree in Gerontology from Saint Joseph’s University and a certificate in Low Vision Therapy from Salus University. Dr. Offerdahl is a graduate of Temple University School of Pharmacy and an assistant professor at Salus University. She completed a residency in pharmacy practice at Temple University Hospital, where she spent much of her training in the area of infectious diseases. She has held faculty positions at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Offerdahl has a clinical practice outside of Philadelphia and is currently doing additional training in integrative medicine studies, including homeopathy and herbals. MARCUS DEVLIN, OD Dr. Devlin is the clinical director at James Lewis, MD, PC in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. He concentrates on cornea, cataract and refractive surgical management. A graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, he completed a residency in cornea and contact lens at The Eye Institute. Dr. Devlin is adjunct faculty at Salus University, where he lectures on anterior segment and participates in the externship, advanced studies and residency programs. JOSHUA GREENE, MD Dr. Greene is a board-certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and a surgical retina fellowship at Indiana University. He is the former director of vitreoretinal surgery at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center and currently works in private practice specializing in diabetic retinal disease and macular degeneration. LUIS TRUJILLO, OD A graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, Dr. Trujillo completed residency training in pediatrics and binocular vision at The Eye Institute. His clinical specialties are pediatric care, binocular vision, strabismus and amblyopia. He previously worked as a clinical investigator in the Convergence Insufficiency Treatment Trial funded by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
