DDS.
FACULTY:
Goals: This series of lectures should enable the resident to:
1.
Know in depth the anatomy the temporo-mamndibular joint (TMJ) and its normal
2.
Acquire basic notions on the epidemiology, etiology, classification, and types of
temporo-mandibular joint disorders (TMD).
3.
Be familiar with the different types of treatment available for TMD.
4.
Assess the relation between TMD and orthodontic treatment.
Objectives: At the end of this series, the resident should:
1.
Diagnose a patient with TMD.
2.
Differentiate between normal and pathologic function.
3.
Know the etiology of TMD.
4,
Conduct a proper diagnosis.
5.
Evaluate the effect of any diagnosed TMD on the orthodontic treatment, and gauge the
of referring a patient before or during any orthodontic treatment.
6.
Manage any TMD as a complication from an orthodontic treatment.
7.
Be familiar with the available treatments for TMD.

COURSE DURATION AND SCOPE: This course is scheduled between October and February for the first year residents. It is given every Tuesday at a 1.5-hour
session between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and imparts fundamental knowledge on the occlusion and the function (normal and abnormal) of the temporomandibular joint that is pre-requisite to engage in clinical evaluation of patients with TMJ dysfunction.
POLICY ON EXAMINATIONS: 2 biannual examinations (progress and final) are given for this course. During it any number of progress tests or assignments may
be given. Their cumulative weight in proportion to the final
grade may not exceed 50%.
