GOES CAMPING!
& Other Stories
Explore the wide and wild outdoors in Story Salad’s newest musical medley of popular “little books” for children!
In Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping (based on the book by Peggy Parish), everyone’s favorite literal-minded maid
eschews the coziness of the Rogers’ home and goes roughing it! She “pitches a tent” – into the river! And she
“catches a fish” – with her bare hands!
Even future presidents can be slightly absent-minded! In the true story of Abe Lincoln’s Hat, by Martha Brennan,
our 16th president is a lawyer, but often forgets where he puts his important papers... It turns out that tall hats are
good for covering the head, and also make wonderful wear-able filing cabinets!
“Yippie-ky-yee! Yippie-ky-yuu! Sophie makes up silly songs and you can too!” In the adaption of Dayle Ann
Dodds’ Sing, Sophie! no-one wants to hear our heroine’s whimsical country-western musical offerings, except the
cows, corn, and crickets. But when a storm rises, only one thing can calm Sophie’s baby brother – Sophie’s songs!
Under African skies: Jambo Means Hello
(based on the Caldecott Honor Book by
Muriel and Tom Feelings). Sing along with
the Story Salad gang as they present this
Swahili alphabet song!
Plus: a brand-new story featuring Story
Salad’s scientist extraordinaire, Jackie & the
Rocket Ship, with a jet-propulsion
experiment that kids can do at home. Also:
Scaredy-Cat, inspired by Aesop’s “The Lion,
Prometheus, and the Elephant,” a story
about overcoming fears!

David Conte (Producer) has been managing theatrical productions for more than twenty-five years. His
experience includes work both on Broadway and Off-Broadway, in regional theatres, and on national
tours, including Kiss of the Spider Woman, Annie, and A Chorus Line. He served as the general manager of
the Joffrey Ballet in New York City and was the general manager for U.S. tours of The Bolshoi Ballet, Royal
Ballet, and Bolshoi Opera. Mr. Conte is currently the manager of the Plymouth Theatre on Broadway.
G. Wayne Hoffman (Artistic Director) has worked for twenty-five years in the entertainment industry prior
to becoming Artistic Director of STORY SALAD PRODUCTIONS. As an actor, he toured nationally and
internationally in Annie, Phantom of the Opera, and Guys and Dolls and performed in regional theatres,
Off-Broadway, commercials, and cruise ships. He has worked as an accompanist-vocal coach and as a
stage manager, most recently for the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera 2002 season. He considers it a privilege
to create quality theatre for young audiences and looks forward to the challenge of educating new generations.
Ron Kaehler (Author) writes for the theatre, television and cabaret. In addition to the current editions of
STORY SALAD, his works for the stage include the musical A Country Christmas Carol (with Albert Evans)
and the operatic farce Under the Overture. He was executive story editor for Abrams Gentile
Entertainment (NY) where he wrote and developed numerous television projects, including the awardwinning syndicated children's series, Van-Pires. On the concert stage Ron's songs have been performed by
such noted Broadway performers as Bryan Batt, David Garrison, Alix Korey, Eddie Korbich, Marin Mazzie,
and Jessica Molasky. His songs can also be heard on the recordings "Best of Celebration of Life" and
"Twisted Turtle Christmas." On the educational front, he has edited numerous textbooks, most recently
David Kaplan's highly praised Five Approaches to Acting (West Broadway Press).
Albert Evans (Author) wrote the music for the Off-Broadway hit Pageant which, in addition to its many
U.S. productions, has been performed in Japan, Australia and London's West End. His lyrics are featured in
New York City Opera's performing version of The Merry Widow, televised on "Live from Lincoln Center"
(PBS). He co-authored the score for the Off-Broadway cult hit Nite Club Confidential. For New Jersey's
Paper Mill Playhouse, Mr. Evans has written lyrics for Mikado Inc., and music for Great Expectations, A Tale
of Two Cities, Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. He recently adapted the songs of George M. Cohan for the
stage musical biography Yankee Doodle Boy. His other scores include The Texas Chainsaw Musical, Five on
the Isle and, with Ron Kaehler, the Dickens-goes-Nashville fantasy A Country Christmas Carol.
STORY SALAD PRODUCTIONS was begun in 1999 by David M. Conte and G. Wayne Hoffman. It is the
hope of this creative team to inspire and educate children everywhere by combining the magic of theatre
and the joy of literature.
