NACTEDnetwork Presents Township Theatre Revival 12 Oct- 17 Nov Regions: Mohlakeng Sebokeng Alex Atteridgeville Tembisa Soweto The popular culture for a good theatre outing in a local hall, church and park is set to be revived. The noble acts perfected by esteemed giants of theatre of pass. Away from the nagging world of harassment through unjust laws, masses would fill their spaces for a good show; support came in different forms defiance, protest or simple enjoyment. The scarcity of resources did not help matters but great theatre was alive in those unsophisticated spaces. The good times are to roll again. The Gauteng provincial government has established cultural hubs focused on cultural activities happening in our communities. To occupy these spaces NACTED will be showcasing work done by community theatre groups in all the regions of the Gauteng province. The groups will be given an opportunity to stage their performances and let theatre inhabit the centre stage in the lives of our people in the community. Happening in October the organisation in funded by the Gauteng Arts and Culture Council has identified the following communities where the three day festival will be taking place Soweto, Sebokeng, Alexandra, Tembisa, Mohlakeng and Atteridgeville. The groups performing in these townships will be coming from these communities. This thought provoking yet amusing two man production is presented on stage by two seasoned actors, namely Sello Mphana & Sibusiso Kunene. Synopsis of the production The production tells a tale of two brothers who barely know each other namely: Moloantoa Nogy and Richard Tau, meeting for the very first time. These two are born of different mothers but fathered by the same man. Their meeting arranged by Richard who got to know about his half brothers existence from a traditional doctor his family consulted two years ago. Because of the bad luck the family was experiencing at the time, is set in a private park in Soweto. Richard is a medical doctor by profession and married with two children whilst Moloantoa is in to car syndicate. The older of the two is Moloantoa who grew up under hardship in the streets for his mother died 24 years ago from heartache, when she heard that Godfrey, the brother's father was marrying another woman, Richards's mother. He grew up hating his father's guts even though he has never seen him before for he left when he was two years old and swore not to forgive him for what he has done to him and his mother. On the other hand Richard has a good life as both his parents have him and his younger sister Rachel everything a child could wish for including a good education hence why he is a medical doctor today. This meeting between the two is not only to inform Moloantoa about his other family but it is also about the jackpot that he has hit for the first time in his life. Godfrey Tau who is their father was a wealthy man but unfortunately he was hijacked and gunned down somewhere around Soweto two weeks ago. In his latest 'will' he left everything he owns to the first time after 24 years, Godfrey had come around in search of his son Moloantoa but was unfortunately hijacked and killed by Moloantoa himself not knowing that it was his father. We also discover that the girl he impregnated two years ago and never seen or heard from ever since, is actually his half sister Rachel, Richard's sister. KaNyamazane Babuyile Theatre Group Presents KaNyamazane There was a gunshot and we thought it was a 21 gun salute, but in the morning our beloved friend was dead. It is the same Ka-Nyamazane we know? Sunday 12:30 Somewhere up church street -13:00 TEB'S MANAGEMENT SERVICES Conceived and directed by Pat Bokaba Work-shopped by The cast Synopsis The play takes place at a Bed & Breakfast somewhere in the famous Church Street in Pretoria. The place is overlooking the Union Buildings. It is happening during the time of 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. The euphoria and World Cup fever reigns across the whole country to which the B&B is no exception as it is situated just not far from one of the chosen venues, Loftus Versveld stadium. The tenants in this small guest house are nationals from various countries. One of them is Mokete Tsotetsi, who hails from Mangaung in South Africa and Femi Keshi, a die hard soccer fanatic from Nigeria. A pandemonium erupts when the former starts complaining about the incessant noise from Keshi's room. He protests over the loudness of the television and Keshi's screams during ungodly hours of the morning. The stubborn, but yet calm Mr Keshi manages to ignore him for a long time as he enjoys the soccer highlights on the telly. This calls for Mokete to make many attempts to reach out to the ever unavailable B&B Manager for rescue. The issues of nationality and zenophobia rave above the crest during the two visitors' impasse. However, it is the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity that finally wins in this House of guests. “ The presentation of this play is by far arguably the most simplistic and interesting style as it requires only a writing chalk for the visibility of the set on stage”, as the director reckons. Also, miming plays an important part in this play. Emfuleni-14:00 Batlhodi Theatre Productions Conceived and directed by Mahlodi Matlala Synopsis Emfuleni is a traditional play that revolves around the personal matters that concerns King Mbuzikazi Mkhize, of the Zulu tribe. However, prior to the said earmarked moment of truth this top secret is divulged to the Queen by the only trusted right hand man of King, Nogabu. The Queen then seduces him to lay with her. Then on the ceremony day Inyanga Mbambo, led by the bones, tells the King that before sunrise he and the Queen will have to track down emfuleni for a confession to be made about the paternity of the coming son that Queen Nozuko's already conceiving. Mbambo stresses that this should be before the sunrise. However, before then the sickly King Mkhize dies in his sleep.
