“Great journalists have always enjoyed the double
gift of active observation, of passionate detachment.
And great newspapers are precisely distinguished
because of the deep interest with which they take
part in national and international life, and for the
great disinterest with which they observe it,
comment on it, and analyse it.”
Salvador de Madariaga

Studying journalism at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM)
Interested in studying journalism at one of Spain’s most attractive historic towns? Then
the Faculty of Journalism at Cuenca is your place!
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is a dynamic regional university right in
the heart of Spain that is always open to visiting students and professors, who are never
‘foreign’ to us. UCLM has four campuses (Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo).
It is at the Cuenca Campus where our 4-year undergraduate degree in Journalism is
offered.
Cuenca, declared ‘World Heritage Site’ by the UNESCO, has 55,000 inhabitants and is
placed midway between Spain’s capital, Madrid, and the Mediterranean port-city of
Valencia. Cuenca is less than 1 hour away from both cities by high-speed railway.
Cuenca’s citizens enjoy classical music and contemporary art, with artistic and cultural
activities running all throughout the year. The city is surrounded by impressive natural
landscapes, ideal for those who like walking in the woods or practicing adventure
sports.
The Cuenca Campus offers all the services a 21st Century university student could
expect: Access to sports and library facilities, affordable accommodation in student
residences, and 24-hour wireless Internet access.
Our Journalism degree is taught primarily in Spanish, although our faculty includes
English and French-speaking professors who can assist you at any moment. Besides
learning basic journalism skills, such as news writing and broadcast production, our
students attend lectures on Economics, Law, and History. We offer two academic
concentrations (majors): Specialised Reporting and Digital Journalism.
