BOYDEN’S LEADERSHIP SERIES FEATURES
ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY’S DAN DILLON
PHOENIX, October 21, 2014 – Boyden, a global leader in executive search, today released a new issue of its
Leadership Series, featuring an in-depth interview with Dan Dillon, Jr., Chief Marketing Officer of Arizona State
University. This edition also includes a sidebar discussion with Daniel Grassi, Managing Partner of Boyden Atlanta,
on the topic of executives and industry crossover.
In the interview, Dillon discusses moving from the consumer sector to academia, the new rules of promoting a
university, taking big marketing risks, the importance of team chemistry, and the CMO of the future.
“Dan brings Arizona State a stellar track record from the consumer sector,” said Grassi. “His unusual talent in
evolving and building brands makes him a case study in how marketers and top executives can bring fresh
perspectives when they shift sectors. Not all CMOs are capable of making an industry change, though in the right
situations, the value to the client is worth the risk.”
Dillon was appointed CMO of Arizona State University in September 2013. In this role, he is responsible for
branding and marketing activities across the university.
He is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years’ experience in domestic and global general management roles
in both the consumer packaged goods and restaurant industries. He has worked for well-known companies
including General Mills, Keebler, Nabisco, Heinz, Con Agra, and the Coca Cola Company. He spent the past six
years as Chief Marketing Officer for Outback Steakhouse, and most recently, as EVP and Chief Branding Officer
for Ruby Tuesday.
Dillon earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Anselm College and an MBA from Bentley College.
