for “The ASA Awards”
Vanessa Echols of ABC Network Affiliate WFTV Channel 9 to Speak on Breast Cancer
Awareness
ORLANDO, FL– – Sept 25, 2006– – Central Florida Amateur Softball Association, Inc. (CFASA) is pleased
to announce that Vanessa Echols the news anchor for ABC network affiliate WFTV Channel 9 is the guest speaker
for the 2006 “The ASA Awards.” Vanessa Echols is anchor for Eyewitness News Daybreak and Eyewitness News
at Noon on WFTV Channel 9, where she has worked since 1992. Vanessa is very involved in the Central Florida
community and a frequent speaker at churches and schools and on the boards of several community service
organizations.
In February 2004, Vanessa took up a new cause. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and her mission
henceforward was to educate women, men and their families about the importance of early detection of cancer and
coping with cancer treatment.
She has been guest speaker for several Relays for Life Events in Central Florida and was the 2005 honorary
chairman for the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure. She is also working with the newly formed
Orlando chapter of The Sisters Network, which focuses on educating minority women about breast cancer.
“One of the objectives of the gala is to donate a percentage of the event proceeds to breast cancer research. Since
Vanessa is a breast cancer survivor, she can speak firsthand as to why breast cancer research is so vital to finding
a cure,” stated Tony Galloway CFASA Commissioner and ASA Southern Region Director.
The ASA Awards Committee recently announced that nationally recognized sporting goods manufacturer Easton
Sports has agreed to be a sponsor for “The ASA Awards” for 2006. For more information about “The ASA
