Clinical evaluation of AV DERMAC CREAM in cases of
eczema and dermatitis:
Principle Investigator: Dr Dimple Bhankharia

Research Sciences Pvt Ltd
Introduction:
Eczema is a general term encompassing various inflamed skin conditions. One of
the most common forms of eczema is atopic dermatitis (or "atopic eczema").
Approximately 10 percent to 20 percent of the world population is affected by this
chronic, relapsing, and very itchy rash at some point during childhood.
Fortunately, many children with eczema find that the disease clears and often
disappears with age.
In general, atopic dermatitis will come and go, often based on external factors.
Although its cause is unknown, the condition appears to be an abnormal response
of the body’s immune system. In people with eczema, the inflammatory response
to irritating substances overacts, causing itching and scratching. Eczema is not
contagious and, like many diseases, currently cannot be cured. However, for most
patients the condition may be managed well with treatment and avoidance of
triggers. The other forms of eczema are Hand & Feet eczema, Nummular eczema,
Allergic contact dermatitis, Photodermatitis, Lichen simplex chronicus & Xerotic
eczema.
Treatment:
One of the most important components of an eczema treatment routine is to
prevent scratching. Because eczema is usually dry and itchy, the most common
treatment is the application of lotions or creams to keep the skin as moist as
possible. These treatments are generally most effective when applied directly after
bathing (within three minutes is a common recommendation) so that the moisture
from the bath is "locked in." Cold compresses applied directly to itchy skin can
also help relieve itching. If the condition persists, worsens, or does not improve
satisfactorily, another effective treatment is the application of nonprescription
corticosteroid creams and ointments to reduce inflammation
However prolonged use of steroidal creams have been shown to be detrimental to
the skin and causes drug resistance.
AV DERMAC is a purely herbal preparation produced by M/s Amsar Private
Limited, Indore consisting of herbal extracts such as proprietary fraction of
Glycyrrhiza glabra, Selected Triterpenoids of Centella asiatica, anti-bacterial
fraction of psorallea corylifolia.
Study design: 19 patients were included in the study that had no previous
treatment history. ( Fig. 1)

All patients were screened for any other immune disorders and only those that
were free of drug regimen were included. Each patient was given the product
presented collapsible aluminum tubes with instruction about use and general
hygiene. The patients were recalled every 7 days for 8 weeks and their condition
noted along with any complaints. Patients number 2,3,10,11,15& 18 dropped out
of the trial between 1st and 3 rd weeks.

Discussion:
AV DERMAC cream showed marked improvement in 63% of cases. The results
are significant considering that the product is a non-steroidal natural product .
Patients that used it with success showed much better skin tone on recovery
without any marks or scarring. The product is safe and effective in human clinical
use.
