Reference Safety Information – Fleet Pedia-Lax Liquid Stool Softener
FLEET® PEDIA LAX® DOCUSATE SODIUM LIQUID STOOL SOFTENER
Stool softener laxative
COMPOSITION:
Docusate sodium 50 mg (in each tablespoon -15 mL) - Stool softener
Each tablespoon (15 mL) contains 13 mg sodium.
USES:
• to help prevent dry, hard stools
• to relieve occasional constipation
DESCRIPTION:
Docusate sodium is a stool softener laxative, given orally, which usually produces a bowel
movement within 12 to 72 hours. Stool softener laxatives penetrate and soften the stool, thereby
promoting bowel movement.
INFORMATION FOR PATIENT
DRUG INTERACTION PRECAUTION: Do not give this product to child if child is presently
taking mineral oil, unless directed by a doctor.
WARNINGS
Ask a doctor before using any laxative if your child has
• abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting
• a sudden change in bowel habits lasting more than 2 weeks
• already used a laxative for more than 1 week
Stop using this product and consult a doctor if your child has
• rectal bleeding
• no bowel movement within 72 hours of using this product
• if constipation continues after one week of use, contact your child's doctor.
These symptoms may be signs of a serious condition.
Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion. In
case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.
DIRECTIONS
Doses may be taken as a single daily dose or in divided doses in a 24-hour period.
Doses can be given in a glass of juice to prevent throat irritation and to help mask the naturally
tart flavor of the active ingredient.
