KEYBOARD FESTIVAL GUIDELINES
The keyboard events are administered by Worship Ministries of the Missouri Baptist Convention in consultation with specialists. It is our desire that the challenge and inspiration of these festivals would assist Missouri Baptists in establishing, enlarging, and improving the individual music ministries of their churches by training persons to facilitate worship. Objectives
To lead young people to deeper discipleship through the playing of music. To challenge young people to share their faith through music. To encourage the use of keyboard music that is worthy of use in worship. To challenge individuals to set goals for greater accomplishment. To offer opportunities for hearing and encouraging other instrumentalists. To encourage keyboard instructors to teach the demanding and rewarding skill of playing hymns and praise and worship music. To acquaint Baptists with the potential for enlisting young people to develop and use their talents in the local church. To encourage greater participation in associational and state music ministries. 1 General Information

 Participants should play from published music, not copies. Photocopied music, without written permission of the publisher, will result in disqualification of the participant. (See Copyright for further information)  Participant should provide a published copy of all pieces for the adjudicator.  All adjudicators’ music should have measures numbered consecutively beginning with 1.  A participant may participate in a category more than one year even if a SUPERIOR rating is received. There are no age restrictions in any category.  Participants may only advance after a SUPERIOR rating is received in the previous category, and the teacher has approved the advancement.  The Praise & Worship Chorus/Song portion (Level II and above) is designed to encourage students to develop the skills necessary to play keyboard in a more contemporary worship setting. Students will develop the ability to play praise and worship songs from lead sheets. Students will be evaluated on knowledge of key, proper use of chords and inversions, creativity and expressive freedom, as well as piano fundamentals such as tempo, rhythm, continuity, and overall musicality.  Out of respect for other performers, please remain seated during performances. Certificates and adjudication/comment sheets will be presented to all students at their designated recognition time.  Parents, teachers, and friends are invited to attend the festivals and are “The congregation for hymn singing” as listed in the requirements for some categories.  Students may be accompanied by only one guest while sight‐reading. Copyright
 Copied music should not be used unless permission to copy has been granted by the publisher and so noted on the music. It is the responsibility of the teacher to obtain permission from publishers. (NOTE: It could take several weeks to obtain needed permissions.)  When permission has been obtained, please use the copyright acknowledgement as it appears on the music and add USED BY PERMISSION at the bottom of the page.
