Laurentia fluviatilis (law-REN-tee-uh floo-vee-uh-TIL-iss) Blue Star Creeper Semi-evergreen Ground Cover 18” – 24” wide Moderate to High Water Partial Shade to Full Sun USDA Zones 5 – 9 Laurentiaa fluviatilis is a moderate to fast growing, creeping perennial that forms a low dense mat of tiny deep green leaves. It is covered with starry, soft-blue flowers from late spring through summer. It will grow well in most soils. A regular watering schedule should be followed during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Will tolerate moist conditions, but not wet. Remove old foliage in spring before new leaves emerge for a neat appearance. Plants are easily ripped apart into small pieces to make new plantings; this should be done in early spring. Division is not necessary unless you notice die-off in the clump's center. Blue Star Creeper is ideal for planting between paving stones, in the rock garden or as a lawn substitute. It accepts heavy foot traffic. Looks excellent around taller perennials, shrubs, and trees. Its creeping nature allows it to be used for filling the edge of a pond or moist (not wet) landscape. Useful planted over bulbs. Photos courtesy of Wikimedia Commons; Forest and Kim Starr, Hawaii http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Starr_080117-2147_Isotoma_fluviatilis.jpg
