You are assigned one of the questions listed below. You need to research information to answer the question.
You need to write the introduction with a thesis statement and organization categories. Then outline the
body with information that can be used to answer the question.
You will present your question to the class. Using the outline, discuss how you would organize your
answer... what categories you would use in the essay and your answer to the question.
THE QUESTIONS...
1. To what extent was the failure and collapse of the League of Nations the cause of the Second World War?
NOTE: What are three causes of WWII? To what extent was the L of N involved in or contributed to those
causes?
2. Analyze the effects of the Second World War on the USSR between 1941 and 1948. (the question said
1948; you can stop at 1945-46)
NOTE: keep the focus on the USSR itself. Do not discuss the beginnings of the Cold War.
3. “Political factors, not economic considerations, are the major cause of modern war.” With reference to the
Second World War, discuss this view.
4. “The one consistent winner of modern warfare has been technology; the consistent loser has been
humanity.” Discuss with reference to new technology used in the Second World War.
5. To what extent did the Second World War change the role of women?
NOTE: consider both countries where women’s roles changed and countries where women’s roles did not
substantially change.
6. Compare and contrast the use of naval warfare by the United States and Japan.
7. Assess the contribution of the homefront to the war effort of ONE country (Great Britain, Germany,
USSR or USA).
NOTE: use at least three elements of the homefront... propaganda/censorship, women, government control
over the economy directed toward maximum war effort, rationing, response to destruction of civilian centers
by the enemy.
8. Assess the significance of China’s role, led by Chiang Kai-shek, in contributing to the defeat of Japan in
the Second World War.
9. With what justification can the term "total war" be applied to the Second World War?
