According to the Five Golden Rules of Skeletal muscle activity, every muscle has at least two points of
attachment. Define the following attachment points.
Origin –
Insertion –
Every muscle has not only an origin and an insertion but an action, or specific movement it is responsible for.
Complete the following table of common body movements using both the text descriptions on pg 199 and the
illustrations on pgs 200-201. Describe the type of movement and give an example of a common motion that
uses that movement.

Since muscles can’t push, they can only pull, most body movements are a result of two or more muscle acting together
or against each other. During a particular movement, each muscle is described by its major responsibility. Define the
following roles of muscles during contractions.
Prime Mover –
Antagonist –
Synergist –
Fixator –
Using tables 6.3 and 6.4 on pgs 217 and 219, complete this table on the origin, insertion and action these major muscles.
