Overview
Vanderbilt Heart is the top provider of cardiology and heart surgery in Middle Tennessee
and southern Kentucky. We are the only program in either state ranked in the nation’s top
50 by U.S. News & World Report.
We treat patients with many kinds of cardiovascular disease, including very complex cases.
We offer a wide range of services at our main Vanderbilt campus in Nashville as well as
23 locations in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Treatment Programs
Vanderbilt Heart offers the latest in heart treatments and programs. These include programs
for acquired and inherited heart disease in adults; arrhythmia; atrial fibrillation; cardiac surgery; congestive heart failure; general cardiology; heart transplant; interventional cardiology
and radiology; heart disease prevention; valve repair and replacement; vascular surgery; and
heart disease in women.
Our Team
Our team of cardiologists, surgeons, nurses and staff is highly skilled and specialized in many
areas of heart care. We value a culture of collaboration that ensures each patient receives
personalized, compassionate care from a team of experts.
DISCOVERY AND INNOVATION
Our PREDICT program is the first of its kind in a U.S. academic medical center. PREDICT uses genetic
tests to find which blood-thinning and cholesterol-lowering drugs will be most effective for each
patient. The information goes into our advanced electronic medical record, which allows our doctors
to choose the right dose of the right drug, the first time.
We are the only center in Tennessee to study a new way to replace the aortic valve without openheart surgery. This minimally invasive technique allows for a smaller incision, requires less time to
perform and can reduce recovery time. Learn more.
When heart attack patients are on their way to Vanderbilt, we use a proven therapy that cools the
body. This prevents brain damage, which can make for a better recovery.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center was the first hospital in the region to offer a novel approach to
cardiac surgery that’s raising our standard of care. Our Hybrid Operating Room/Catheterization Lab
houses equipment and monitoring devices for open-heart surgeries such as coronary bypass as well
as less invasive procedures such as angioplasty and stenting. If a patient needs two kinds of heart
procedures, they can be done at the same time. This can cut down on complications and costs.
