As men age, their risk for getting prostate
cancer increases. However, early detection
can help physicians better manage their
patients’ health.
Screening for
prostate cancer
Your physician will likely use a digital rectal
examination and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test
to screen for prostate cancer. Irregular or suspicious
results, along with your current health and medical
history, may cause your physician to order a
prostate biopsy.
Reason for a biopsy
As of today, a biopsy is the only test that fully confirms
the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Tissue samples are
taken from your prostate with a needle, and then
analyzed to determine the presence or absence
of cancer cells.

Prostate Core Mitomic Test or one or more of its components
was developed and its performance characteristics determined
by Mitomics. It has not been approved by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA). Mitomics has determined that such approval
is not necessary. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should
not be regarded as investigational or for research. Mitomics is
regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)
of 1988 as qualified to perform high-complexity clinical testing.

What does your
prostate biopsy
result really mean?
With the Prostate Core
Mitomic Test™, now you
can know.
Initial biopsies

of all prostate
cancers.

test that can pick out this damage in normal cells
that are adjacent to tumors. As you can see in the
diagram, the cancerous tumor can be quite small,
and the biopsy cores may not come in contact with
the tumor. However, the Prostate Core Mitomic Test
can identify the presence of the tumor because the

Biopsy needles may not hit small tumors,
and biopsy samples may yield inconclusive
results. In both of these situations, no cancer
was found, but it may still exist. Based on
your medical history and additional risk
factors, your doctor may decide to order
an additional biopsy. However, in many
cases a negative biopsy is truly negative,
and a second biopsy is unnecessary. But
how can you and your doctor be more
confident in the results?
The Prostate Core Mitomic Test is a highly sensitive

a high degree of certainty,
PCMT identifies that you
do not currently have
prostate cancer. Because
an additional biopsy is not

and have peace of mind
that you are prostate
cancer free today.
A positive PCMT result
means you are at a high
risk for undiagnosed
prostate cancer. Your
doctor can use this

Your doctor will order the Prostate Core Mitomic Test
The Prostate Core Mitomic Test works by recognizing
changes in your mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondria are
structures within a cell that produce energy for the cell.
Mitochondrial DNA is highly susceptible to damage.
The Prostate Core Mitomic Test identifies the damage
to mitochondrial DNA caused by cellular changes
associated with prostate cancer development.
