Topic 6 Review:
1. Why do modern rockets usid liquid instead of solid fuel? – Because liquid
fuel causes the rocket to go higher, further and last longer. Solid fuel also has
a lower velocity rate.
2. What is a two stage rocket? – A two stage rocket is a when a rocket
detaches the heavier and un-needed portion, to become lighter.
3. Compare the payloads of ancient and modern rockets. – In 1942 Werner
von Braun created the first ever liquid payload rocket. Now adays we still use
the same, or similar engineering as they did in 1942.
4. Describe two types of artifical satellites. What are they used for? – Moon,
and Earth. They are also used to look down at earth. The very famous Hubble
telescope is a artficial satellite.
5. What is remote sensing? – Remote sensing is the science of taking
measurenments of Earth and other planets from space.
6. How could you tell if a satellite dish was tracking a geosynchronous
satellite or one in a low Earth orbit? – A low earth orbit is used for
television and broadcasting, and is visible from earth. Where a
geosynchronous satellite is in the earths orbit, and tracking Earth and other
planets.
7. A company wants to put a fleet of low Earth satellites in orbit to create a
worldwide telephone link. There is less of a time lag in the
conversations the closer to the ground the satellites are. What
advantages is there to putting them 700 km up, instead of 250 km up in
the sky? – If you put them up 700 km, they will stay in place, and will
constantly orbit the earth, having no problems in managing their behaviour.
