Atomic/Periodic Table Review
1. What is the difference b/w an atom and an element?
2. Where is most of the mass of an atom found?
3. What is the overall charge of the nucleus and why?
4. Where are the electrons and what keeps them from flying off?
5. What does the atomic number tell you about an element?
6. What is the difference b/w atomic mass and the mass number?
7. How can you calculate the number of neutrons in an atom?
a. Give 3 examples of the number neutrons in elements from the periodic
table and show the atomic number and mass number for each example:
8. How do isotopes vary from the elements found on the periodic table?
b. Give 3 examples of isotopes of carbon, oxygen, and uranium make sure to
include the new mass number and explain why it changed
9. If the relative abundance of an isotope of an element with a mass of 10.21amu is
23.89% and the relative abundance of another isotope of the same element that has a
mass of 11.67 is 76.11% what is the elements atomic mass. Make sure to pay
attention to the rules about multiplying significant figures.
10. What is the difference b/w a period and a group on the periodic table? Don’t just
put the direction also include what is common within the same row and column b/w
the elements.
11. What is another name for a family on the periodic table?
12. Write out a description of a Bohr model and then create 3 examples from
elements on the periodic table.
13. Write out a description of a Lewis dot structure and then create 3 examples from
the elements on the periodic table.
14. Describe the 5 periodic trends and compare 3 elements for each trend.
