Example
A housing survey shows these types of house in a street of 24 homes:

We can make these into a table - first make a list of the types of
home:
Home
House (2 bedroom)
House (3 bedroom)

Bungalow
Now make a tally mark l for each one that you count.
Go through the list one by one and cross each one off as you enter it
on the chart. When you reach 5 tally marks, the 5th goes across e.g.
llll and you leave a gap before the next tally mark.
