Rapid Group A Strep Screen
Bacterial Culture (Aerobic Culture):
Abscess, Anal, Bartholin cyst, Cervix, Vaginal,
GC, Group A Strep Culture, Group B Strep
Culture, Rectal, Throat, and Wound (Aerobic
Cultures)
 Eye
Anaerobic Bacterial Culture
 Aspirates, bile, tissue, dental abscess, pelvic
or abdominal abscess, surgical wounds,
severe burns and deep wounds
Only one swab necessary for an aerobic & anerobic
culture.
BD Universal Viral Transport Media
(UTM--Red cap with pink liquid)
(1 ml or 3 ml container)
NOTE: Please submit body fluids/tissues in a
sterile collection container (i.e. capped &
needle-less syringe, vacutainer collection
jugs, sterile cup or CSF tube)
Direct Antigen Tests & Viral Cultures
Nasopharyngeal Swab for Direct Antigen Tests:
 Influenza A and B Viral Screen
 RSV
Swab for the following:
 Viral Culture on any source but blood and
urine
 Influenza H1N1 Cultures
 Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma Cultures
 Chlamydia Cultures
 Chlamydia Eye Cultures
NOTE: Transfer specimen to the red cap contain
within 2 hours of collection and refrigerate.
Do not Freeze.

Urine Collection
Urine for Urinalysis and/or Culture
Collect urine in cup, use transfer straw to convey urine
to tubes for transport.
 Gray Top Tube – Culture
 Yellow/Red Speckled Tube – Urinalysis
If a Urine Drug Screen is required, send specimen in a
clear top vacutainer tube.
Please note: Urine specimens are better preserved
and do not leak when transported in the vacutainer
tubes instead of the cup with lid.
