Business Math Syllabus This course is designed to enable students to learn and apply mathematics skills to a business setting. Grade System: Total Points (50% Daily Work; 50% Tests/Quizzes) Performance Standards 1. Mathematical foundations for all computational skills and concepts. Apply basic mathematical operations to solve problems. 2. Number relationships and operations. Solve problems containing whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, ratios, and proportions. 3. Patterns, functions, and Algebra. Use algebraic operations to solve problems. 4. Measurements. Use common international standards of measurement in solving problems. 5. Statistics and probability. Analyze and interpret data using common statistical procedures. 6. Problem-solving applications. Use mathematical procedures to analyze and solve business problems for such areas as: a. Taxation b. Savings and Investments c. Payroll Records d. Cash Management e. Financial Statements f. Credit Management g. Purchases h. Sales i. Inventory Records j. The course is designed to build the knowledge and skills necessary to solve a variety of arithmetic problems that are commonly found in business situations, specifically for occupationally oriented students who have the ultimate objective of gainful employment in offices or stores, or who are preparing for careers in fields such as agriculture, beauty culture, home economics, or food services. It is an advanced course for high school tenth or eleventh graders who have a reasonable mastery of fundamental arithmetic and contains curriculum concepts and general teaching suggestions, overview of content, administrative considerations, fundamentals, refresher, business cycle, banking and finance, office mathematics and personal money management.
