#
Dual WAN Failover:
If the primary WAN port connection fails, the secondary backup
WAN port will take over the traffic connection instantly. Applies
to VPN Gigabit Routers.
C
Captive Portal (Wi-Fi Hotspot):
A software feature is used to service a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing
IT administrators to block wireless clients from accessing the
network until user verification has been established. Applies to
11n Access Points and 11ac Access Points.
Clustering:
Clustering, or AP Clustering, provides a single point of
administration and lets IT administrators view, deploy,
configure, and secure a wireless network as a single entity
rather than a series of separate wireless AP configurations.
Applies to 11ac Access Points.
Command Line Interface (CLI):
CLI is a console user interface for interacting with a computer
program. Users issue commands to the program in the form of
successive lines of text (command lines). Customers and IT
administrators typically look for CLI support on high-end
network devices (managed switches and high-end routers).
Applies to Managed Switches.
D
Denial of Service (DoS) Prevention:
One firewall rule is to detect attempts to cause a sever

A security feature that acts like firewall between untrusted
network devices and trusted DHCP servers (assigning IP
addresses). It helps to validate DHCP messages received from
untrusted sources and filter out any invalid messages. This
feature is often offered by smart or managed switches. Applies
to Smart Switches and Managed Switches.
Managed Gigabit
Switches
2x2 MIMO:
“Multiple-input and multiple-output” (MIMO) is a method for
multiplying the capacity of a wireless radio link using multiple
transmit and receive antennas to exploit multipath propagation.
With different numbers of multiple antennas, MIMO technology
can significantly enhance the performance of a single data
signal for wireless devices. 2x2 stands for 2 antennas
streaming and
2 antennas receiving at same time. Applies to 11n Access
Points and 11ac Access Points.
Access Control List (ACL):
Access Control List, ACL is a software feature allowing the
router, switch, or AP the rights to allow, deny, or audit a trusted
network device via a list of access control rules and traffic
patterns. Applies to Smart Switches, Managed Switches, 11n
Access Points, 11ac Access Points, and VPN Gigabit Routers.

security rules in authentication and accounting. RADIUS server
deployments and use cases are often applied in medium-size
and enterprise networks for network security enhancement.
Applies to Smart Switches, Managed Switches, 11n Access
Points, and 11ac Access Points.
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), also known as IEEE
802.1w standard, is an enhancement of STP. It provides
significantly faster spanning tree convergence time vs.
standard STP for better network performance.
Web Content and Keyword Filtering:
This security feature restricts access to blocks by specific Web
URL link or keyword. Applies to VPN Gigabit Routers.

OpenVPN:
OpenVPN is the open-source software application that
implements VPN techniques for creating secure point-to-point
or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged configurations
and remote access facilities via SSL/TLS for key exchange and
encryption. OpenVPN is widely adopted today with its
flexibility in security and open-source community
development effort. Applies to VPN Gigabit Routers.
R
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), also known as IEEE 802.1d
standard, is a network protocol that ensures a loop-free
topology for any bridged Ethernet network, preventing
any bridge loops and broadcast traffic for better network
efficiency and performance.

Multicast:
Multicast refers to “one-to-many” or “many-to-many” network
traffic distribution. It is also a group communication where
network traffic and information are sent and exchanged among
a group of destination network devices simultaneously. Applies
to Smart Switches and Managed Switches.
Quality of Service (QoS):
The ability to assign different priorities to different
applications, users, or data flows, or to guarantee a certain level
of performance to a data flow. Applies to Unmanaged Switches,
Smart Switches, Managed Switches, and VPN Gigabit Routers.
STP/RSTP/MSTP: Applies to Smart Switches and
Managed Switches.
