Division Surgical Oncology-Breast Surgeon
The University of New Mexico, Division of Surgical Oncology and The University of New Mexico
Cancer Center are seeking a Surgical Oncologist with a focus in breast cancer to join our active,
well-established academic multidisciplinary practice, at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full
Professor. Endowed Chairs and Professorships are available for mid-career applicants with
established clinical and translational research programs. Rank and tenure status will be determined
according to the qualifications and interest of the candidate. This is an excellent opportunity for a
surgeon interested in academic and clinical opportunities. The successful candidate will be offered a

We are looking for individuals with outstanding training and experience in academic Breast Cancer
Surgery, who are interested in working with a strong team of medical oncologists, radiation
oncologists, and diagnosticians who deliver a state of the art, fully integrated, multidisciplinary
practice to our patients.
Minimum requirements: Medical Doctor. Board certified/eligible in general surgery. Eligible for
licensure in NM. Completion of an accredited residency in general surgery. Completion of an
accredited surgical oncology or breast cancer fellowship. Strong interest in teaching and research.
Evidence of significant basic, clinic, translational or outcomes research accomplishment. Eligible to
work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications: Academic experience. Evidence of scholarship.
The UNM Health Science Center is an outstanding, academic-based facility with a thriving regional
and statewide clinical practice. The UNM Cancer Center is one of the nation’s 60 premier National
Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Centers with renowned laboratory, translational, and clinical
research programs. One of the Center’s major programs is The Women’s Cancers program with a
strong focus in breast cancer research. This Program has 19 principle investigators and $6 M/yr in
extra-mural funding. Studies for this program include population-based investigations which examine
the differences in breast cancer incidence and survival in our multiethnic populations, and
overcoming breast cancer disparities, to laboratory studies focused on the genomic and biologic
aspects of breast cancer, to a novel drug discovery program for breast cancer, as well as active
clinical trial programs with statewide population outreach activities. Access to advanced
technologies and collaborations with New Mexico’s national laboratories in innovative cancer
diagnostics, nanotechnologies, and engineering are a distinguishing feature. The University of New
Mexico is committed to providing New Mexico residents access to world-class treatments and
technology. To that end, UNM opened its new, $90 million, 190,000-square-foot ambulatory Cancer
Treatment Center in August 2009.
