Amoeba (“to change”)
 Shape is always changing
 Many different spellings of this name
 Has a pseudopodia (“fake feet”) for movement
 One of the first microorganisms viewed with a microscope
Paramecium
 Shaped like a slipper; oval
 Found in freshwater around the world
 Most complex single-celled organisms
 Has “cilia” (small hair-like structures surrounding the organism) that is uses for movement
Euglena
 Cross between a plant and animal
 Bright green
 Moves like an animal
 No cell wall
 Uses eyespot to find light
 “true pupil of the eye”
 Found in ponds and freshwater around the world
 Can live in water areas rich in chemicals
 Flagellum helps it move (like a tail)
Volvox (“to roll”)
 Twisting, turning, rolling spheres
 Part animal, part plant
 Single-celled
 Live in freshwater around the world
 All have a nucleus
 Move by rolling (and it has small flagella)
 Has adult and daughter colonies
