Unit: “I Like Insects!”
Letter Recognition and Phonological Awareness: I and i
I know the sounds for I, like insects and ice cream!
Thematic Concepts:
Insects are bugs that have 6 legs such as bees, beetles, wasps, ants, fireflies, butterflies and ladybugs.
There are many different insects and animals that live in a yard or garden.
These insects help us in several ways.
Bees can help us by making honey and pollinating fruits and flowers.
Bees like yellow, blue and purple flowers best.
The parts of an insect are: antennae, head, thorax, abdomen and 6 legs. Most insects also have wings.
Butterflies taste with their feet! They cannot eat. They can only drink because they do not have a
mouth , they have a tongue that is like a straw instead!
Crickets “chirp” by rubbing their wings together. A cricket’s ears are below his knees!
Bees make honey by drinking the nectar from flowers and bringing it back to their hive to make honey.
I like honey!
