COMEDIANTS
WHO ARE WE?
Comediants is a group made up of actors, musicians, and artists of all disciplines that is
completely devoted to the world of creation. Although it is generally known as a theatre
group, the scope of the group’s work is so diverse that it has spilled over into some of
the most wide-ranging fields. Design, records, books, festival projects, films, costumes,
educational materials and television series are just a few of the many different ways in
which the team has developed its own unique form of expression, whether through its
own voice or through those of others.
Since day one, Comediants has been closely tied to what might be referred to as the
festive spirit of human existence. All of our pagan, folk, religious and initiation
ceremonies, rituals and creations celebrate the human being’s cyclical journey on Earth.
Thus, our performances and shows go beyond the purely theatrical or musical, in a
quest to reactivate the deep-seated festive roots that bind us together as a species and
that connect us with the natural world that we form a part of. Along these lines, we have
gradually developed a work method with no limits whatsoever. Any place at all can
serve as a stage (a street, a square, an entire district, a river, a meadow, the Segovia
Aqueduct, the Olympic Stadium, the subway station in Times Square, or Lake
Banyoles, just to name a few). Any object can be dramatised (a glass of milk, a bed, a
traditional “big- head” dwarf, etc.), and any sort of language (mime, clown, comedy
dell’arte, puppet theatre, etc) is a perfectly valid means to reach the viewer, regardless
of his/her age.
Our aim? To offer a “theatre of the senses”: a theatre of colours, scents and textures, yet
also a provocative theatre. The provocation of a spirit of optimism in the face of certain
current realities. The provocation of rediscovering everyday life despite the unstoppable
wheels of time. And finally, the provocation of being committed to the present, of
opening people’s eyes to help them see the world as a wonderful, immense home full of
culture and friendship that we all need to care for before it is too late.
