Headline® Fungicide for
Improved Plant Health
Technical Information Bulletin
Headline reduces mitochondrial respiration in plants. This means the plant can keep more
stored carbon for growth. Headline also triggers a chain reaction of positive physiological
changes, including an increase in nitrate reductase activity, elevated levels of antioxidants
and defense signaling compounds, and a decrease in the stress hormone ethylene. The
combination of disease control and physiological effects lead to the Plant Health benefits of
Headline described in this bulletin.
Disease Control and Improved Plant Defense*
Headline Pre-treatment Activates Plant Defenses
Against Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV)
Healthy Plant
– TMV
•Excellent control of major foliar diseases
•Increased tolerance to bacterial & viral infections
Headline® fungicide provides excellent
control of major foliar fungal diseases in a
wide variety of crops. In addition, Headline
has been shown to prime plants for more
intense resistance responses following
fungal, viral, and bacterial pathogen attack.
Improved plant defense responses minimize
the impact of disease.

Greater Stalk Strength & Harvestability
•Healthier, stronger stalk
•Faster, more efficient harvest

Avoid the fatigue and stress at the end
of the season caused by lodged corn.
Headline provides healthier, lessdiseased stalks that efficiently transport
water and nutrients to leaves and grain.
Healthy, less-diseased stalks at harvest
result in less lodged corn, enabling more
efficient harvest.

Increased Tolerance to Stress*
Headline Improves Plant
Tolerance to Drought Stress
Wheat Five Days Without Watering
•Drought •Frost
•Heat
•Hail
•Ozone
•Cold
Growing conditions are rarely ideal
throughout an entire season, and
even short periods of mild stress
can reduce the yield potential of
a crop. Minimizing the impact of
these stresses helps a crop to
maximize its yield potential.

followed by one hour periods of 77° F, 86° F, 95° F, and 104° F, followed
by eight hours of 107.6° F, and then five hours of 113° F. Photograph

•Improved utilization of nitrogen
•Improved Plant Health

Diseases can weaken crops by robbing
nutrients and reducing photosynthetic
leaf area. Headline controls disease
and improves the photosynthetic
efficiency of plants. Healthy plants with
more efficient photosynthesis stay
green longer and have more energy
available for grain fill.

Headline improves growth efficiency
by enhancing nitrogen utilization and
overall Plant Health. Improving growth
efficiency maximizes available energy
and the yield potential of plants.

Increased Growth Efficiency
Improved Grain, Fruit, & Tuber Size and Quality
Headline® Fungicide Improves Tuber Quality
•More uniform seed size (corn)
•Increased fruit size (citrus)
•Earlier fruit maturity and coloration (citrus)
•Improved quality, such as reduced sugar ends and larger tubers (potato)
•Better seed quality and more uniform seed size (soybean)
•Increased recoverable sucrose (sugar beets)

Greater Yield at
Harvest
Headline not only controls disease,
but also impacts the physiology of
plants, enabling the plants to better
handle yield-robbing environmental
stresses such as drought, heat, cold
temperatures, and ozone damage.
The combination of disease control
and these Plant Health benefits often
translate to improved performance
of Headline in the field producing
greater yields at harvest.
