Position summary:
The Marketing Officer (MO) is responsible for supporting Tocris’ global marketing objectives by
maintaining day-to-day marketing activities and participating in broader marketing campaigns as required.
In terms of day-to-day activities, the MO will be required to help maintain the Tocris mailing list (regular
data entry, periodic clean-ups, analysis, etc), send out literature to customers, prospects and distributors,
analyse & report on the results of marketing activities and analyse & comment on sales figures, customer
profiles, competitor activities and so on.
In terms of contributing to broader campaigns, the MO will be required to assist with arranging the
production and distribution of promotional materials (electronic and hardcopy), including liaising with
external agencies for printing and other outsourced services where appropriate. The MO will also input
into (and execute) campaigns to achieve marketing goals, and organise and attend a proportion of
tradeshows.
Finally, the MO will support the Marketing Team in keeping distributors, specialist sales channels and
other agents focussed on promoting the Tocris brand.
Key tasks and responsibilities:

Help maintain Tocris’ mailing list, including carrying out data entry work and ensuring the accuracy
and security of the data. This will include sourcing names from journals, websites and
conferences.

Respond to requests from customers, prospects and distributors for literature.

Provide assistance to the production, design and execution of promotional materials and activities,
including the catalogue, literature, and e-alerts. Liaise with third parties such as mailing houses
and printers where appropriate.

Contribute to and help execute e-marketing campaigns. This will include sourcing names for
specific campaigns, issuing the e-alerts, analysing the results and following up as required.

Support Tocris’ tradeshow program by assisting with bookings and arrangements, ensuring that
the appropriate marketing materials are available, arranging pre-show promotions (e.g. pre-show
mailers), attending tradeshows in a sales capacity (i.e. represent Tocris on our booth) and
executing post-show follow up (e.g. send out e-mails, fulfil literature requests).

Prepare and analyse sales and marketing data and gather competitor intelligence.

Support Marketing with the identification and development of sales channels in target territories
and accounts.

Carry out all other duties as required.

Key skills and competencies:










Marketing communications experience is desirable.
Minimum graduate-level knowledge in a relevant life-science discipline.
Detailed knowledge of Tocris products, services, customers and marketplace.
Good general business skills including: interpersonal skills, time management, organisational
skills, decision-making, problem investigation/solving, negotiating, communication and planning.
Professional standards of written and spoken English.
Good team worker, but also self-motivated and able to work autonomously.
Numerate and accurate, and able to analyse data in a variety of forms.
Good IT skills; ability to use M/S Office software (especially Excel & Word), ACT!, OPERA and
Tocris’ Product Database.
A professional manner.
Passport and full drivers’ license.
Key performance indicators:





Accuracy of the mailing list.
Timely execution of marketing campaigns (electronic and hardcopy).
Securing accurate print quotes based on data provided.
Attention to detail to ensure trade exhibition materials arrive at the destination and that the booth
is equipped to specification.
An up-to-date knowledge of Tocris’ products and services.
Additional information:
Tocris’ normal business hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, but out of hours work (including
weekends) will be required as part of the role. Continuity of service is essential however and freedom to
take holiday and flexitime may be restricted on occasion as a consequence.
The role will require a moderate amount of travel (including air travel), both domestic and international at
times necessitating overnight stays, mainly associated with attendance at tradeshows and visits to
customers/distributors.
