Fact Sheet: MSR22LM Two (2) Sensor Muting Problems
1. You can ONLY mute the Light Curtain wired to S12 and S14. If there are two (2)
Light Curtains, and they are wired to S12,S14 and S22,S24; with two (2) muting
sensors wired to S32,S34 …..Only the curtain wired to S12, S14 will be muted.
2. If only one (1) light curtain is used, then jumpers are required from S21 to S22
and from S23 to S24.
3. The muting sensors (MS1 and MS2) are PNP type N.C.. Retro-Reflective and
Transmitted-Beam style photoelectrics must be “light operate” versions…or set to
L.O. via switch or wiring. The muting function occurs with this relay when these
muting sensors turn ‘off’ (go low). The muting sensors are wired to S32 and S34.
If the muting sensors are dry contacts (limit switches) then they are wired across
S31-S32 (MS1) and S33-S34 (MS2).
4. There MUST be a jumper from S41 to S42
5. There MUST be a Muting Lamp wired from M1, M2 to 48. The Muting Lamp
must consume between 25mA (min) and 100mA (max). A 470 ohm, 2W resistor
can be used ONLY to troubleshoot the possibility of a muting lamp problem.
6. Switch 1’s MUST be set to ‘2’ for Auto restart …or… to ‘3’ for Manual restart.
BOTH switches MUST be set to the same number.
7. Switch 10’s can be set to the maximum muting time required for safety. BOTH
switches MUST be set to the same number.
8. Muting is accomplished in a SEQUENCED ONLY fashion. The sequence is as
follows: MS1 => MS2 => LC1 => MS2 => MS1. This sequence is also regulated
by time. After triggering MS1, MS2 MUST be triggered within 3 seconds. The
LC1 Light Curtain MUST be broken within 3 seconds of MS2 trigger. The relay
is now in a Muted state. It can remain in this state until the time limit, as set by
the 10’s switches, expires. As soon as the LC1 light curtain re-establishes, MS2
MUST be re-established within 3 seconds and then MS1 MUST be re-established
within 3 seconds of MS2. ONLY under these sequences and timings will the
MSR22LM safety relay perform an error-free muting function.
