-2In an exciting display of musical skill, young Israeli Lahav Shani, winner of the
prestigious Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition, will double as both
conductor and piano soloist. The first piece is Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 20, K466,
which was premiered with the composer himself playing the piano part. This
particular Mozart piano concerto was a favourite of Beethoven’s, and is also
featured in the movie Amadeus.
The second half of the concert comprises Mahler’s First Symphony, a typically huge
work scored for about 100 musicians – a record number for The Marlowe Theatre
stage!
There is limited availability for Anton and Erin: Just Gotta Dance on Thursday 4 and
Friday 5 February. The nation’s favourite ballroom couple return to Canterbury with
a new show, complete with 25-piece band.
The Johnny Cash Roadshow, on Saturday 6 February, is the only show to be
endorsed by the Cash family. Fronted by award-winning singer/songwriter Clive
John, it takes audiences from the 1950s to 2002 (Johnny died in 2003), and
features all the greatest hits, accompanied by screen images and shots from
Johnny’s life.
