EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON HUMANS
Name: Jeyson Poveda.
INTRODUCTION
Our planet is warming. The last ten years have been the hottest since record keeping,
and scientists predict even higher temperatures in the future. This heating process is
known as the "greenhouse effect".
Climate change is called climate change with respect to climate history on a global or
regional scale. Such changes occur at very different scales of time and over all
meteorological parameters: temperature, atmospheric pressure, precipitation, cloudiness,
etc. In theory, they are due to both natural causes (Crowley and North, 1988) and
anthropogenic (Oreskes, 2004 )
The greenhouse effect is a climate change’s phenomenon by which the gases that are in
the atmosphere retain the heat emitted by the Earth. This heat comes from the natural
solar radiation, but when it bounces on the earth's surface it is trapped by the gas barrier
and causes more evaporation of water from the oceans, torrential rains, floods, hurricane
winds, droughts, frost and also heat waves.
Humans are increasing the atmospheric concentrations of these gases through
industrialization. This could mean affectation on human’s health like illnesses by inhale
this gases.
This essay will try to answer the question: How Affects Global Climate Change in
Human Beings?
BODY
Earth temperatures are suitable for life thanks to a natural process called the greenhouse
effect. When the solar radiation reaches our atmosphere, part of it is reflected to the
space, and part of it passes and is absorbed by the Earth. This causes the surface of the
Earth to become hot. Heat is radiated outward and absorbed by the gases present in the
Earth's atmosphere, the so-called "greenhouse gases". This process prevents the heat
from disappearing, causing the temperature to reach + 15 ° C instead of -19 ° C.
The causes of climate change can be natural as variations in the energy received from
the Sun, volcanic eruptions, ocean circulation, biological processes, and also by
anthropogenic factors such as burning fossil fuels (coal, gasoline, natural gas and Oil)
and deforestation.
Actually the energetic model of many countries is to use carbon, petroleum and gas, this
causes alterations on the environment like gas’ increasing of 0, 4% per year.
The famous historian, Naomi Oreskes said: “The scientific world has affirmed and
reaffirmed the validity of scientific evidence. The National Academy of Sciences, the
United States Meteorological Society, the United States Geophysical Union, the
American Association for the Advancement of Science, and many other similar
organizations, as well as the world's leading scientific and academic organizations, to
the work of climate science. In 2006, eleven national academies of science, including
the oldest in the world, the Italian Accademia Nazionale dei Licei, issued an unusual
statement stating that the 'threat of climate change is clear and increasing' and that 'any
delay In action will lead to higher costs. ' Almost 10 years have passed since then.
Today, scientists assure us that evidence of the reality of climate change induced by
human activity is 'clear' and the World Bank tells us that its impacts and costs are
already felt”
In effect, the climate change generates several alterations in the nature, i.e.:

Floods in assent of mountainous areas due to the overflow of glacial lakes.

In some regions of Africa (Sahel) reduction of the duration of the growing
season, with consequent detrimental effect on crops.

Sea level rise with the consequent loss of mangrove swamps and coastal
wetlands, which hitherto helped prevent flood damage from coastal flooding.

Extent of droughts in affected areas and duration of droughts.

Increased number of floods resulting from heavy rains.

Paulatino depletion of ecosystems to absorb CO2, which would rapidly increase
the effects of climate change and global temperatures.

Disappearance of coastal areas due to sea level rise.
Furthermore, all the effects that generates de climate change affect directly to the
humans’ health, because originates risks like:
INCREASED MORTALITY ASSOCIATED WITH HEAT WAVES
An increase in the temperature of the Earth's surface will result in an increase in
respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The cardiovascular and respiratory systems are
affected because, under hot conditions, the person must exert a greater effort to perform
any activity, putting under more pressure to these systems.
INCREASED DISEASE INFECTIONS
The spread of "heat waves" increase the transmission of infectious diseases caused by
mosquitoes and pests. Due to temperature fluctuations, the rate of reproduction and
survival of pathogens such as protozoa, viruses and bacteria increases; these agents
often use the help of mosquitoes, ticks or other insects to transmit to human’s different
infections. In addition, the extension of tropical areas to higher latitudes will affect a
larger portion of the world population, increasing the number of deaths from mosquitoborne diseases and other pests responsible for dengue, malaria, cholera, fever Yellow
and various types of diarrhea.
INCREASED MALNUTRITION DUE TO DROUGHTS AND SEASONAL CROP
IMBALANCE.
As a result of droughts or floods, problems arising from poor or insufficient nutrition
will increase. Malnutrition continues to be the largest global health crisis and according
to the WHO, approximately 800 million people are malnourished.
Then, the climate change is very harmful for humans and the humans are the
responsibles.
