Shang Dynasty Museum Exhibit
Objective: In my study of China….I will analyze the Shang Dynasty.
Directions: Design a museum exhibit about the Shang Dynasty. For your exhibit, choose an artifact for
each of the 6 characteristics of the civilization- government, social structure, religion, writing, art, and
technology. Characteristics of civilizations are: government (rulers and leaders), social structure (social
hierarchy, men vs. women, rich vs. poor), religion (god, gods and goddesses, higher power, people you
worship), writing (language and alphabet), art, and technology (inventions, use of tools, weapons, etc.).
Once an artifact has been chosen, explain what the artifact reveals about the Shang Dynasty (what
makes it important to china or world).
Also, include the following elements for your museum exhibit:
A catchy exhibit title to draw visitor’s attention
Visuals that relates to the chosen artifacts
A label to identify each of the artifacts
A plague that summarizes what the artifacts reveal about the characteristics in the Shang
Dynasty. Think about the importance of the artifact to Ancient China or the world. Can you say
Ancient China was highly advanced or was it more basic? What was life like for the Chinese
during the Shang Dynasty?
Any other creative touches that make the exhibit more realistic
Museum Exhibits will be displayed. Students will “attend” a museum crawl of all exhibits.
