Gene A and B are transcription factors. One is a repressor of transcription and one is an
activator of transcription, but you don’t know which is which. Both bind to DNA:
protein A binds to DNA element AA and protein B binds to DNA element BB.
Each DNA binding portion, activation portion and repressor portion of either protein are on
single exons, respectively. Thus, only two of the four exons for each gene has a function.
Just to reiterate two of the exons are dispensable; thus the other two exons are enough to impart
function when properly fused.
Design a set of experiments using one type of assay to determine those protein regions
on gene A and B. (use area on back page as scratch work and the following page for design.)
Be as clear as possible. You will get more points for more clarity!
Meaning the more you spell out the experiment and why you are doing it, then the more points
you will get.
