Sequences
“ A linear sequence is a pattern of numbers where there is the same
difference between one number and the next.
For example – 5, 10, 15, 20…… the difference is always 5 ”
Task
Complete the next three terms of each of these linear sequences :
12, 24, 36, 48
7, 19, 31, 43
3, 11, 19, 27
9, 2, -5, -12
100, 93, 87, 80
0.5, 1, 1.5, 2
-20, -14, -8, -2
3.5, 4, 4.5, 5
150, 135, 120, 105
“ We can create a linear sequence using a formula. For example we can use
the formula 2n to create the sequence 2, 4, 6, 8 …… by putting in different
values of n, starting at 1 ”

Now try to find the 20th term in each of these sequences. (hint – put n=20 into the formula)
Extension
