DFB Scanner®
DFB Scanner® Overview
High Finesse Phase-Shifted Grating
The DFB Scanner® is a spectrum analyser (or
interrogator) defined by its internal DFB laser
working within the ITU Grid Channel #43 of
the C-Band. Its primary mandate is to emulate
well-established high resolution wide tuning
range spectral analysers. Our system offers
similar basic functions with increased
performances.
The High Finesse Phase-Shifted Grating is a recent breakthrough
that spurred the DFB Scanner® into existence. The FBG-based
architecture is a narrow cavity whose internal twin-FBG mirrors
enable very high reflectivity, resulting in a greater resolution
capability . Our High Finesse Phase-Shifted Gratings are
manufactured by selecting phase masks that match closest to the
interrogator embedded DFB laser center wavelength (1542.9 nm)
at 5°C.
The DFB Scanner® was created to fulfill a
need for high resolution specialized tool
focusing on the functions needed while being
highly affordable.
Given the DFB Scanner® system works in
reflection, it is advised to use the High
Finesse Phase-Shifted Grating (PSG) that
comes along as accessory. The λ0 was made
to be matched to the embedded DFB laser.
However, any optical architecture allowing
reflection where an observable spectrum is
ascertained to be within the ITU Grid
Channel #43 is also fine.

Software – User Interface
The DFB Scanner algorithm can be broken down
into two stages. There is first the coarse turning
stage and then the fine tuning one. The first allows
to see the entirety of the spectrum within the ITU
Grid Channel #43 to determine the region of
interest (ROI). The fine tuning will enable high
resolution study of the ROI.
